Business Challenge

As part of the larger focus on digital transformation, the client wanted to migrate its mission-critical SAP applications to a third-party data center. But with only infrastructure and operations support available in this option, it was clear that a better permanent fix was necessary.

The aim was to move to a hyper-scale cloud platform that can run all critical business and IT systems. This platform was also expected to act as the key anchor for fostering accelerated digital transformation.

With their decision to migrate to the Microsoft Azure cloud, the client was seeking external expertise for their complex SAP architecture. They needed a partner who could onboard the best migration approach with minimal downtime and budget

How MSRcosmos was selected?

MSRcosmos was chosen to lead this project after a careful evaluation among multiple partners. MSR’s strong Microsoft partnership with advanced specialization in SAP on Azure cloud migration, robust capabilities, and exposure to handling complex SAP architecture worked in its favor.

Solution

MSR team initiated the cloud migration program with an in-depth assessment of client’s complex SAP architecture. Multiple deep-dive sessions were organized with key client stakeholders to get a comprehensive understanding of their SAP landscape and business requirements. This extensive study was done at the client’s site.

During the entire migration process, the MSR’s offshore team faced a few initial roadblocks while accessing the client’s SAP system. The team was able to find a quick resolution to march forward. Some of the key solution highlights include the following

• End to end migration of SAP ECC w/ SQL Server in HA, BW/4HANA, BW, EP, GTS, NW Gateway, SOLMAN across DEV/QA/ PRD/DR environments, ahead of schedule
• One of the early adopters of NFS 4.1 for Azure Files, for cluster share files and SAP shared directories
• Delivered stretch cluster configuration for automatic disaster recovery (DR)

Upon successful migration, MSRcosmos was awarded with a multi-year application management services contract.
